Why Sellers Choose Us

What you get when we run your sale.

Most owners sell a business once in their life. These six things are why they trust that sale to Website Properties — and what you can expect from the first conversation to the day the deal closes.

Who you're working with

Experience on your side

We're not just brokers — we're internet entrepreneurs. The partners at Website Properties have collectively developed, operated, and sold over 50 internet-based businesses of their own. We understand eCommerce sites, content portals, online advertising, and marketplaces like Amazon, because we've run them ourselves.

That means we know, from personal experience, the effort you've invested in your business — and how to represent it for its greatest market value.

How the sale runs

A time-proven process

Our sales process has been at work since 2002 and has closed more than 600 online business sales. It starts with a free, no-obligation evaluation of your business. We review your domain, your traffic, your vendor relationships, your financial history, and the intangibles that don't show up on a spreadsheet — so the evaluation reflects real market value.

Who sees your listing

An extensive buyers list

We maintain a private buyers list of over 50,000 clients, with acquisition criteria from $100K to $25M across most industries. Many are active, professional buyers — which is why new listings generate interest almost immediately.

Add proven business-for-sale portals, venture capital contacts, and high-net-worth individuals, and your business gets in front of tens of thousands of buyers within days of listing.

What it's priced from

A detailed business valuation

Accuracy and speed matter, and we deliver both. We work with you to understand your business and its finances in detail, restate your discretionary owner expenses, and base the valuation on the true value of the business — not a cursory look at the numbers.

What it asks of you

Hassle-free service

Our service is comprehensive: from the day your business is listed, to finding the buyer, to closing the sale. Your broker keeps you posted on all serious buyer interest, so you stay in the driver's seat the whole way. All our fees are performance-based so your goals and our goals are always aligned.

Who handles your deal

Customized representation

No two online businesses are the same, so no two sales should be handled the same way. Every business we represent gets a skilled team and a dedicated senior broker who stays with you from listing to closing. You will never be handed off to an inexperienced or outsourced broker.

    01What is a website broker?

A website broker sells online businesses on behalf of their owners — online stores, Amazon FBA brands, software companies, and content sites. The broker prices the business, prepares it for sale, finds and screens buyers, negotiates the deal, and manages the closing. You keep running the business while the broker runs the sale.

02Why use a broker instead of selling on my own?

Three reasons. Reach: a broker brings buyers you would never find on your own. Privacy: a broker markets your business without naming it, so employees, customers, and competitors don't find out it's for sale. Experience: the buyer on the other side has likely done deals before. A broker makes sure you have someone on your side who has too.

    03What does a broker cost?

You pay nothing up front. We earn a fee only when your business sells — a share of the sale price, paid at closing. If the business doesn't sell, you don't owe us a fee. The first step, an evaluation of your business, is free.

04When is a broker NOT the right fit?

For very small sites. If your website is worth less than about $25,000 to $50,000, you may be better off selling it yourself on a marketplace. At that size, a full sale process takes more time than it saves. A broker makes sense when the business is established and there's real money at stake in the price, the terms, and the handover.

Three ways to sell

Sell it yourself, use a marketplace, or hire a broker.

Each path works for a different kind of business. Here's what they look like side by side.

Selling it yourself Marketplace listing Full-service broker
Setting the price Your best guess A basic estimate Built from your real financial records
Preparing the sale On your own A listing form Clean financials and a full sale package
Finding buyers Whoever you can reach Whoever browses the site A private list of 50,000+ buyers
Keeping it quiet Hard — word gets out The listing is public Buyers sign a confidentiality agreement first
Screening buyers You do it yourself Little to none Buyers show they can pay before they get details
Negotiating You, alone, against the buyer Limited help An experienced broker on your side
Your time A second full-time job Hours spent on unqualified buyers You keep running your business
Cost Free, except your time Listing or success fees A share of the sale price, paid at closing
Best for Hobby projects Small, simple sites Established businesses with steady profit

There's no single right answer. Small sites sell fine on marketplaces. But the bigger the business, the more the pricing, the screening, and the negotiation matter — and the more it costs you to get them wrong.

I could not have sold my business without the help of the entire WP team. Selling your business is a one-time event, so you need the expertise of a partner who has done it many times. There was so much I didn't know, and WP was able to explain it all to me, and get the deal done.
